Gōjū-ryū, which translates from Japanese to "hard-soft style," is recognised as one of the primary traditional martial arts originating from Okinawa, Japan.
This distinctive style of karate is characterised by its unique combination of hard and soft techniques, creating a well-rounded approach to both self-defense and physical fitness.
The term "Gō" represents the hard aspect of the style, emphasising powerful, closed hand techniques and straight linear attacks that are designed to deliver maximum impact. Conversely, "jū" signifies the soft element, incorporating open hand techniques and graceful circular movements that promote fluidity and adaptability in combat.
Together, these elements make Gōjū-ryū a versatile and dynamic martial art that not only prioritises strength but also emphasises strategy and timing.
